About us
Seedlings is the Journal of the Undergraduate Psychology Association. We were founded in July 2025, in the same year that our wider committee the Undergraduate Psychology Association (UPA) was created. Our aim is to make the publishing process accessible to undergraduates and to plant an early seed for how to do science well - fostering habits of clear communication, open research, and supportive critique from the beginning of students’ research journeys. Our creation was inspired by the JoULAB (Journal of Undergraduate Linguistics Association Britain). This guide is accordingly inspired by the JouLAB author’s guide.
Our Core Values
Accessibility – The publishing process is intimidating for most undergraduates. We hope to provide a safe space for undergraduates to experiment with publishing their work, while receiving substantial peer support. Submitting is also free, for this very reason.
Open Science – We are the only undergraduate psychology journal to our knowledge that implements a registered report pipeline and has an Open Science Officer position built in the committee. We are committed to fostering transparency, rigour, and reproducibility from the earliest stages of students’ research journeys.
Transparency – We believe in ensuring that students are never left in the dark about how the publication process works. Because of this, we detail our peer review and internal review processes publicly, and openly share peer review feedback alongside publications. We believe that demystifying the process is essential to widening participation in research.
